Clipper related events took place in Rio de Janeiro on October 25 and 26, 2009, with our trade mission also travelling to Sao Paulo for additional presentations and meetings.
On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Cape Breton hosted a “Sail Day” on board our yacht. Including the Cape Breton contingent, 12 people were on board the “CAPE BRETON ISLAND, Nova Scotia’s Masterpiece” for a sail on Guanabarra Bay near to local landmark Sugar Loaf Mountain.
Local business people, dignitaries, media and consulate representatives joined us, and all helped sail the yacht during the 3 hour sail. This represented a tremendous relationship building opportunity for all those involved.
On Monday, October 26, 2009, Cape Breton hosted a business event at Casa de Arte e Cultura Julieta de Serpa. The evening provided an insight into the types of trading opportunities and partnerships that could exist for Rio organizations with Cape Breton. Approximately 30 people attended the event including representatives from municipal government, tourism, the Federacy of Industries, Clipper and the Canadian Consulate. The Honorary Consul General from Finland and the wife of the Canadian Consul General also attended our event. The Commemoration of Friendship was signed at this event by Susan Larabie, wife of the Canadian Consul General to Brazil, and everyone experienced a musical performance by the Beaton sisters that highlighted one of the Island’s most vibrant musical cultures.
